April is the Month of the Military Child and here at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Plains, we applaud and support all those in service for our country. Our Clubs identify the dedication and strength of our military-connected members in our community and know that unique challenges are faced and overcome every day in this position.
“The average child in a military family will move six to nine times during a school career. That’s an average of three times more frequently than nonmilitary families.” Source: Department of Defense Education Activity
Children in these families face unique challenges compared to their peers. With moving, new schools, and a parent that is away serving, military children face struggles in their day to lives. The same goes for that parent that is home supporting their family while their spouse is serving. The Club aims to provide an enhanced support system. With locations all over, the Club can serve as a familiar asset in a child’s life, no matter where they are attending. Free memberships are also available for members who are part of a military family. Forms can be found at the front desk.
