Hey everybody! My name’s Anya and I am one of the summer interns at the club this year. I thought it would be a good idea to get some experience in my field of study and check out a non-profit organization. There are six total interns this year, which, I’ve been told, is the most the club has ever had. I am super happy that I get to be a part of that record. Getting to meet new people can be a little nerve wracking at times, but it’s easy when you work with the people I do; especially the other interns.
Sabrina, operations, does things like bring awareness to LGBTQ through community projects, BGCA training recruitment, and making sure kids feel safe and appreciated by staff, and whatever her supervisor, Jenny, needs her to do.
Chaise, special events and marketing, helps with planning events like ECE graduation and the three raffles the club hosts. He also works on design and redesign of club marketing materials.
Brianna, teen center programing, researches and creates programs for kids to participate in throughout their day at the club. She also fills in spaces when she is needed.
As the resource development intern, I get to work on stewarding gifts like flowers, birthday cards, thank you cards, and welcome signs, and making sure club staff and donors feel appreciated and will continue to donate and keep the club running smoothly, and I get to write an occasional blog. I also get to work with the kids in the afternoon which is a ton of fun.
Of these four interns, three are South Dakota State University students, me included, and one goes to the college of St. Benedict Marie in Minnesota. Sabrina came here through a fellowship her school offered her. She said she excited to find her place here for the summer.
Each intern does different tasks related to their college major and title at the club, but each one of them said so far they enjoy what they do working here. Chaise and I agreed that we love working at the club and are so very happy that we applied for our positions, and we knew each other from school so it is super fun that we get to work together in a professional setting.
Having an impact on the youth of Brookings, Moody
County, and Yankton is a huge part of our goals at the club, and I am so glad
that the club gives college students like me from here and for the opportunity to be
productive, responsible, and caring citizens just like the kids who are members
at the club.
