Here at the Boys & Girls Club, our staff are committed to helping all members become better learners and succeed in school. Participants in Club Tutors spend one-hour afterschool each day on additional work generated by their classroom teacher in which they need growth or work on their homework. Club Tutors takes place in a quiet space conducive to learning with additional staff assistance to both motivate and help members if they have questions.
Each day, when members come to Club Tutors, they participate in a “Brain Break” activity or play math board games for 15 minutes to get them settled and reentered into a learning headspace. Members then get down to business and work towards completing their daily assignments. Once completed and checked over by staff, members are free to leave our Club Tutors for the day and participate in programming out in the main Club.
Every Friday we have a 'reward day' for members that worked hard all week and finished their assignments! Members can either choose to have the day off from Club Tutors or can come in, bring their friends, and play educational board games with other students and staff.
Club Tutors works with classroom teachers to help participating members meet their educational goals and keep on track with their school work. If you are interested in your child participating in the Club Tutors program, please talk with your child’s classroom teacher or contact our Program Director, Kristy Weaver, at kweaver@greatfuturessd.org or by calling the Club at (605) 692-3333.
