Building Great Futures through Teen Leadership Programs

At the Boys & Girls Club, we base our programming on three priority outcomes of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Character & Leadership.

Within our Boys & Girls Club of Brookings & Boys & Girls Club of Yankton Teen Centers, we offer a couple of leadership groups that focus on building good Character & Leadership, our Torch & Keystone Clubs.

Our Teen Leadership Groups

Torch Club (6th & 7th grades) & Keystone Club (8th-12th grades) are service-focused clubs that promote a culture of kindness, diversity & inclusion at the Club. Youth have the opportunity to learn about serving & volunteering in their communities, develop & grow in their individual leadership abilities & participate in weekly formal meeting procedures.

Boys & Girls Club of Brookings

Throughout the fall, our Boys & Girls Club of Brookings Torch Club wrote encouraging cards to StoneyBrook Assisted Living friends & spread kindness by hanging positive posters around the Club. Our Keystone Club focused on volunteering at our Clubhouse, Early Childhood Education, site. Members of our Keystone Club spent many days leading preschool & kindergarten aged members by teaching drawing lessons, playing & leading board games or activities in the gym & hosting dance parties.

Our teens have also been able to spread holiday cheer by decorating around the Club! They decorated our holiday tree & strung lights up in our Teen Center & around the front desk.

Boys & Girls Club of Yankton

Our Torch & Keystone Clubs at the Boys & Girls Club of Yankton have spent most of the fall working together to create a soap business! During meeting times, they have worked on researching a product to sell, ingredients they needed, competitive pricing & how to market their product in the Yankton community.

Last week, our Club members were able to whip up their first batch of holiday-inspired cinnamon/orange hand soap, which will officially go on sale this week! The group landed on selling their soap at $8.00 per bar or $15.00 for a pack of 2!

Our Goal

Through our teen leadership programs, our goal is to continually instill the importance of teamwork, kindness & encouragement while providing opportunities for them to lead lessons, engage in meaningful programming & implant lessons of good character & leadership along the way.
